China-only BMW sedan to premiere in November.
Just weeks after being spotted with little camouflage in Spain, the BMW 1 Series Sedan has been spied completely undisguised in China, courtesy autohome.com.cn. The 1 Series Sedan was introduced in June and is yet to be fully revealed (BMW released only a single image showing the front portion of the car).
The BMW 1 Series Sedan is the company's attempt to expand its presence in the C-segment. It's the production version of the BMW Concept Compact Sedan that was unveiled at Auto China 2016. It has been developed exclusively for China, but its hatchback version, the next-gen 1 Series hatchback, will be a global product. According to the report, the Audi A3 Sedan and Mercedes CLA's new German rival will debut at the 2016 Guangzhou Auto Show in November.
The BMW 1 Series Sedan is based on the company's UKL platform that currently underpins the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer and BMW X1, as well as the MINI 3-door, MINI 5-door, MINI Clubman and MINI Convertible. The 1 Series Sedan measures 4,456 mm in length, 1,803 mm in width and 1,446 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,670 mm.
The BMW 1 Series Sedan will be available in three models: 118i, 120i and 125i. The 118i will be powered by a 136 hp 1.5-litre turbocharged engine, while the remaining two models will have a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine in different states of tunes (120i: 192 hp, 125i: 231 hp). The 1 Series Sedan will be offered with LED headlamps, two-tone exterior mirrors, sunroof, head-up display and 9 styles of wheels (118i: 16-, 17- and 18-inch, 120i and 125i: 17- and 18-inch). The 120i and 125i models also sport dual exhaust pipes.
