In-line with manufacturers launching long wheelbase versions of regular cars exclusively for the Chinese market, BMW has unveiled the 2016 BMW X1 L at the Auto China 2016 in Beijing.
The X1 L measures 4.56 meters in length, 1.81 meters in width and 1.62 meters in height, and is 13 cm longer than the regular BMW X1. With the increased wheelbase, rear passengers get 5 cm-18 cm more knee room and a cargo capacity of 465-675 liters (depending on the position of the rear seat), and 1,650 liters with the rear bench folded.
Some of the features available in the BMW X1 L include LED headlights, Driving Assistant Package, Harman Kardon audio system, 8.8-inch iDrive Navigation Plus display, Touchpad input, head-up display and a hands-free tailgate.
BMW will offer three powertrain options for the X1 L: the sDrive18Li with a 1.5L three cylinder engine delivering 136 hp, the sDrive20Li/xDrive20Li with a 2.0L four-cylinder unit producing 192 hp and the xDrive25Li, with a 231 HP 2.0L four-cylinder. All three engines are paired to a six-speed Steptronic transmission, while the option of an 8-speed auto is available in the 2.0L variants.
