Maruti and Hyundai favoured among used car buyers.
Following is the list of 20 cars with the highest resale value in India. The list, compiled by CarWale, gives the percentage value of the ex-Showroom price of the car assuming that it has covered 25,000 km in 3 years and 40,000 km in 5 years.
It is interesting to note that utility vehicles offer the best resale value with the Toyota Innova, Maruti Ertiga and Ford EcoSport topping the list. The Toyota Fortuner offers an average of 85 percent return in 3 years, whereas SUVs/MUVs such as the Renault Duster, Mahindra Scorpio and Mahindra Xylo offer between 72-76 percent.
Among the rest of the 13 vehicles is a balanced mix between Maruti and Hyundai models. Popular models such as the Maruti Swift, Maruti Eeco, Maruti Swift Dzire, Maruti Alto, Maruti Wagon R and Maruti Ritz offer a minimum average resale value of 72 percent after three years and 57 percent after five years.
Hyundai's top models in the list include the Hyundai Verna and the Hyundai Elantra, which have a resale value between 78-80 percent in three years. In the hatchback category, it is the tried-and-tested Hyundai Santro which has better resale value than newer, and more premium products such as the Hyundai i10 and Hyundai i20. The Honda City takes 15th position with a resale value of 75 percent in 3 years and a little over half its original price in 5 years.
