One of many expected first-in-segment features of the Kia SP2i has been a head-up display. A new spy shot from Throttle Blips shows one of its test mules spotted in India equipped with this a head-up display. This means that a head-up display will be available in the upcoming premium B-SUV in our market.
The Kia SP2i's head-up display will likely be a pop-up unit like the one seen on the 2020 Kia Soul (shown in the embedded video). Officially released teaser images have revealed that the advanced features will include a huge 10.25-inches touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, a large driver information display and multi-colour mood lighting. A dedicated mobile phone storage area with wireless charging is also expected in the Kia SP2i.
On the outside, the upcoming SP2i will have striking similarities with the SP Signature concept, which has evolved from the SP Concept. It will have Kia's signature Tiger Nose radiator grille, sharp LED headlamps with a 3D light graphic and a diamond pattern at their trailing edges, vertically stacked compact LED fog lamps, wraparound LED tail lamps and muscular bumpers.
The SP2i will be based on an upgraded version of the Hyundai Creta's platform, which will be capable of spawning a seven-seater. Should a 7-seat SP2i make a business case, Kia will launch one at a later stage. The 5-seat version will be available with a 1.5L N/A petrol engine and a 1.5L turbocharged diesel unit. The transmission choices will likely include 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic units.
Rumour has it that a performance variant of the SP2i is on the cards. Kia will launch it with a 140 PS 1.4L turbocharged petrol engine married to a 7-speed DCT with paddleshifters. This variant should have a stiffer suspension setup, the red brake callipers we have seen on the test mules, sportier bumpers, exclusive wheels and lots of other goodies to differentiate itself better.
