That the launch of the Tata Bolt is close is not news, but Tata Motors is currently testing its latest hatchback without any camouflaging whatsoever.
Readers of Auto Column have sent in images of a fully visible Tata Bolt running around the company's facilities in Pune. Thanks to the considerable amount of changes Tata Motors has made to the Bolt, the hatchback looks nothing like the Vista that it is based on.
The Bolt made its global debut a few days before its unveiling at the Auto Expo 2014. The Bolt, along with the Tata Zest, will be Tata's latest offerings, before a smaller hatchback - to compete with the likes of the Maruti Wagon R - is set to launch in 2015. The Tata Bolt will enter production in July is most likely set for a festival season launch, as reported earlier.
The hatchback gets Tata Motors' new family of turbocharged petrol engine, the Revotron engine, along with a standard diesel engine. The 1.2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder Revotron motor will produce 85 PS @ 5,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque between 1,750-3,000 rpm. The diesel will feature the familiar 1.3-liter Quadrajet motor outputting 75 PS and 190 Nm of torque.
An AMT for this diesel engine is confirmed for the Zest, and we believe that there would be no reason to reserve this disruptive feature for the sedan.
