Posted on: Feb 3, 2014 - 1:06pm IST

The Tata Zest was unveiled in an event in New Delhi today, just a few minutes ago. The Zest is basically a re-skinned Manza, with an overall length of 3,995 mm. Thus, the Zest will qualify for the Indian small car excise benefits, and will be Tata’s second sub-4 meter sedan (the Indigo eCS being the first).

The Zest, when it goes on sale in India this year, will be the most affordable automatic diesel car you can buy. Tata has announced its all new F-Tronic Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) for the diesel variant of the Zest.

This 5-speed gearbox will be paired to the 1.3-liter four-cylinder Quadrajet diesel engine, which outputs 90 PS @ 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque between 1,750-3,000 rpm in the Zest. As a result, the Zest will be the first car in its segment to offer:

a. An automatic gearbox for the diesel variant
b. An automated manual transmission

The Zest will compete with the likes of the Honda Amaze, Maruti Swift Dzire and the Grand i10 based Sedan (which will be unveiled tomorrow).

The petrol variant of the Zest will derive its power from the new 1.2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder Revotron motor. This engine will produce 85 PS @ 5,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque between 1,750-3,000 rpm on the Zest.

Changes are good considering the Tata.. but they should come out of Indica base designs..good efforts but should come out from their conservative design aspects considering the competition..! All the best. Tata..!

      That’s true, Mr. Sonawane!

The Zest and Bolt are freshly baked with design inputs from R&D centres in Pune, Coventry & Turin. Since they are based on the current platform, some of the cues carried-over, but nevertheless they are far ahead to their predecessors in terms of quality, technology, and design as well.

New cars on brand new platforms and design would be launched subsequently, as a part of the Horizonext Initiative (as previously told by an executive at TM).

Tata’s Automated manual transmission was not in news. It was only the Celerio which was making the buzz….. Gr8 news Tata!!!! Definitely the design language of the cars have changed a bit. Now the wheels seem to be more connected to body. Now it’s all based on pricing and quality of the car that will make talk of it’s numbers on the road…..ffngers crossed…….. Thumbs up

Great going TATA. ZEST looks superb, Bolt side profile reminds of VISTA. I sincerely want you to be in the top 3. You deserve to be there. Rev up your service network and dealer attitude. My friends who have bought Amaze have got problems with dealer / attitude.
Display NANO AMT outside colleges / malls.
