The Tata Zest was unveiled in an event in New Delhi today, just a few minutes ago. The Zest is basically a re-skinned Manza, with an overall length of 3,995 mm. Thus, the Zest will qualify for the Indian small car excise benefits, and will be Tata's second sub-4 meter sedan (the Indigo eCS being the first).
The Zest, when it goes on sale in India this year, will be the most affordable automatic diesel car you can buy. Tata has announced its all new F-Tronic Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) for the diesel variant of the Zest.
This 5-speed gearbox will be paired to the 1.3-liter four-cylinder Quadrajet diesel engine, which outputs 90 PS @ 4,000 rpm and 200 Nm of torque between 1,750-3,000 rpm in the Zest. As a result, the Zest will be the first car in its segment to offer:
a. An automatic gearbox for the diesel variant
b. An automated manual transmission
The Zest will compete with the likes of the Honda Amaze, Maruti Swift Dzire and the Grand i10 based Sedan (which will be unveiled tomorrow).
The petrol variant of the Zest will derive its power from the new 1.2-liter turbocharged four-cylinder Revotron motor. This engine will produce 85 PS @ 5,000 rpm and 140 Nm of torque between 1,750-3,000 rpm on the Zest.
