Though equipped with ABS and EBD, the Indian variants of the Maruti Baleno stick to drum brakes for the rear wheels.

Though the Maruti Baleno BoosterJet is an export-only variant, it will be produced in India for export to over 100 countries. Officials of the company have already confirmed to IAB that the entire engine will be manufactured in India. The export version is badged as a Suzuki and will be powered by an all-new three-cylinder 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine producing 110 hp and 170 Nm of peak torque. A second petrol motor, a 1.25-liter DualJet engine with SVHS (Smart Vehicle Hybrid by Suzuki), will also be offered.

The Maruti Baleno has garnered over 70,000 bookings since its launch.

While the latter will not be launched for the Indian market as it fails to comply with the small car legislation, it is the 1.0-liter BoosterJet motor that is expected be lurking under the hood of the upcoming Maruti Baleno RS Concept, which will make its debut at the Auto Expo 2016. There isn't much clarity on when this model would be launched in India.

When launched for India, the Baleno BoosterJet will compete against the likes of the VW Polo GT TSI and the Fiat Abarth Punto.
