Hero MotoCorp is planning to open exclusive dealerships for two-wheelers with the engine capacities of 150cc and above, reports PTI.
Speaking to PTI on the side-lines of EICMA 2017, Hero MotoCorp Chairman MD and CEO Pawan Munjal said:
As we go forward, we will have more products in the premium segment with higher engine capacity. Clearly a customer for 100 cc is very different from a customer for premium bike. So we considering a retail strategy with which will be able to service that kind of (premium) customers. Overall we plan to launch half a dozen products during the current fiscal and premium models would be part of it. The company would launch more models over 150 cc, including bikes and scooters, to bolster its premium product range.

He added that the Hero XPulse, which the brand showcased at the 2017 EICMA is under the premium segment, and that the brand is developing other products as well. Munjal revealed that the company has an increased focus on scooters and premium offerings. Commenting on the brand’s plans in two-three years, Munjal said:
Going forward clearly, because there is big growth in scooters, growth in premium segment, where we have small market share, the difference will be there but we cannot ignore our bread and butter segment.

Currently, the Indian two-wheeler maker sells all of its products through 6,000 dealerships across the country. Expect the production versions of Hero XPulse, XTreme 200S to be marketed via premium dealerships. The company is working on a 125 cc scooter as well. The scooter will reportedly have classic design lines to take on the Vespa range. In early 2018, Hero will reportedly launch the Aava scooter; and in late 2018, a 200cc off-road motorcycle. It is likely that the off-roader will be the production XPulse.
