Production of the BMW 1 Series Sedan begins in China

Will be launched in early 2017.

The BMW 1 Series Sedan had its world premiere at the 2016 Guangzhou Auto Show last month, and weeks later, the Brilliance-BMW joint venture has commenced its production.

The BMW 1 Series Sedan is based on the UKL front-wheel drive platform. Currently its availability is restricted to China.

The BMW 1 Series Sedan is based on the UKL front-wheel drive platform that's utilised for the BMW X1, BMW 2 Series Active Tourer and BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer as well as the entire new generation MINI line-up. It measures 4,456 mm in length, 1,803 mm in width and 1,446 mm in height, and has a wheelbase of 2,670 mm.

The BMW 1 Series Sedan will be available in three engine models: 118i, 120i and 125i. The 118i model will be the base option powered by a 1.5-litre TwinPower Turbo three-cylinder petrol engine that will be linked to a 6-speed manual transmission. The 120i and 125i models will pack a 2.0-litre TwinPower four-cylinder petrol engine in different outputs. The bigger engine will be paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The BMW 1 Series Sedan will be available with 1.5-litre three-cylinder and 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engines.

LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, L-shaped LED tail lights, dual exhaust pipes, sunroof, full colour head-up display, three-spoke multifunction steering wheel, electric brake and an 8.8-inch LED display for the infotainment system are some of the key features of the BMW 1 Series Sedan that will go on sale exclusively in China in early 2017.
