BMW India has announced that the 2016 BMW X1 has entered production at the company’s assembly plant in Chennai. Prices were announced at its unveil at the Auto Expo 2016, which range between INR 29.9 Lakhs to INR 39.9 Lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).
The second generation BMW X1 measures 4,439 mm long , 1,821 mm wide and 1,598 mm high, making it 36 mm shorter, 21 mm wider and 53 mm taller than its predecessor. The design is an evolutionary upgrade over the previous model, and appears to be more utilitarian than the outgoing X1. It has a larger pair of kidney grilles, LED headlamps in the top-end grade, revised front bumper, redesigned alloy wheels, new taillight design and dual exhaust tips.
Inside, the new X1 has a more premium interior design with lesser button count in the center console and trimmed with materials like chrome, wooden and piano-black elements. It has a 6.5-inch free-standing iDrive infotainment display on the dashboard that can be extended to an optional 8.8-inch screen with Navigation Plus in the M-Sport grade.
Under the hood is a 2.0-liter TwinPower diesel engine producing 190 hp and 400 Nm in the X1 sDrive20d variant. It is paired to an 8-speed automatic gearbox and is available with an xDrive AWD system in top-end grades.
