BMW presented its mid-size luxury crossover X6 and the compact executive car 2-Series Active Tourer at the 2015 Bangkok Motor Show. BMW sells almost every international product in Thailand and is a key market in South East Asia.
BMW X6
The X6, which is in its second-generation, continues on the same virtues as the original X6 but offers a new yet familiar design, and will replace the current X6 when it reaches India this year. The show car is a xDrive30d, which powered by a twin-turbo diesel engine that churns out 218 bhp of maximum power.
It is paired to an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox, which in turn is connected to an all-wheel drive system. In the M Sport avatar, the X6 is adorned with 20-inch alloys, ‘M’ standard interiors, and an adaptive suspension system.
BMW 2 Series Active Tourer
The 2-Series Active Tourer, on the other hand, is a new-born compact car based on the the UKL front wheel drive platform, which also underpins the Mini Cooper.
It measures 4,342 mm in length, 1,800 mm in width, 1,555 mm in height and 2,670 mm in wheelbase, and competes directly with the Mercedes B Class.
The 2-Series is powered by a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder turbocharged engine producing 136 bhp and 220 Nm of torque. A 6-speed manual gearbox and an 8-speed automatic are offered with the car.
BMW has no plans to launch the 2-Series Active Tourer in India, while the X6 luxury crossover is due for launch by mid-2015.
