Shares powertrain with the KTM Duke 390.
According to a report on MotorOctane, the forthcoming Bajaj VS400 (Bajaj Pulsar VS400) will feature a slipper-clutch. This certainly appears plausible given that the KTM Duke 390 and KTM RC390 are fitted with a slipper-clutch and the VS400 shares its powertrain among other possible parts with the Austrian motorcycles.
The Bajaj VS400's launch is reported to take place around the Diwali period (end-October 2016). When launched, the Bajaj VS400 is expected to cost in the region of INR 1.7 lakhs, ex-Showroom, making it the most expensive Bajaj two-wheeler.
One report states that the motorcycle will not be sold under the Pulsar sub-brand, instead, a different sub-brand would be established or used for the VS400. However it is to be noted that the VS400 made its debut in concept form at the Auto Expo 2014 as the Bajaj Pulsar CS400 (where CS stood for Cruiser Sport). Bajaj also showcased a fully-faired version of this motorcycle, dubbed the Bajaj Pulsar SS400 (SS stood for Super Sport) at the same show.
Coming to the powertrain, the Bajaj VS400 will borrow the KTM Duke 390's 373.27 cc single cylinder liquid-cooled engine, with Bajaj's DTS-i technology. This unit, mated to a 6-speed gearbox, will produce 25.74 kW (34.50 hp) on the VS400 (it develops 32 kW/44 hp on the KTM Duke 390).
The Bajaj VS400's feature list will include dual-channel ABS, front and rear discs, black alloy wheels, a stubby exhaust, MRF Revz C1 and FC1 tyres, dual digital cluster setup (the cluster on the tank is reported to house the various warning lights) and LED daytime running lights.
