The fourth-gen SsangYong Rexton, which is sold as the Mahindra Rexton in India, was introduced in early 2017. Spy shots snapped in South Korea have revealed that a facelift is being prepared for this model, with an expected debut in early 2020.
The spy shots reveal that the facelifted model is bound to receive a new mesh-pattern grille which is significantly bigger than the current model's grille with horizontal slats. This hints that the front fascia of the Rexton may change by a greater degree, likely including redesigned, LED headlamps and a new bumper. Also, a closer look reveals that the shape and positioning of the fog lights are also likely to vary. The horizontal LED foglamp strip may be replaced by new squared fog lamps.
Save for new alloy wheel options, the sides will be the same. The rear-end will likely have tweaked combination lamps and a restyled bumper. The number plate will be positioned on the tailgate just like on the current model. The interior is yet to be seen, but no drastic differences are expected in this aspect.
No major changes are expected in the terms of specifications either. The 2.2L diesel engine which develops a modest 181 PS of maximum power and up to 420 Nm of torque and 2.0L petrol engine which develops 225 PS and peak torque of 350 Nm will likely be continued with enhancements. Similarly, 6-speed manual (petrol/diesel), 6-speed automatic (petrol) and 7-speed dual-clutch automatic should remain the transmission choices.
