The next-gen 2020 Mahindra Scorpio is now under development and being tested on public roads in India. IAB's master designer Shoeb Kalania has produced a rendering of its rear-end as per all the details revealed by its spy shots.
The Mahindra Scorpio was launched back in 2002, and this is for the very first time that it's set to undergo an extreme makeover and get fully transformed bumper to bumper. As per details revealed by the spy shots, there will be substantial differences in its proportions compared to the outgoing model. The rendering of its rear-end shows that the new Scorpio will be taller and wider. There will be a completely new tailgate and tail light design and a cherry on the top will be its raked back glass which will give it a modern look with a slightly hunched back design compared to the upright stance of the current model. Although it will be a radically new product, it will have the familiar character and DNA of the original model.
As for the interior, reports say that the all-new Mahindra Scorpio will feature a taller and wider dashboard. Vertical central air vents will have replaced horizontal vents. Also new will be the touchscreen infotainment system, steering wheel, gear knob, control stalks and instrument cluster, with most of them likely lifted from the Mahindra Marazzo to keep the costs in check.
The new Scorpio will make use of an all-new BS-VI 2.0-litre diesel engine which churns out 160 PS of maximum power. This engine will be 80 kg lighter than the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine which powers the current model. 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic will be the transmission options. A 4WD system could be offered as an option.
