Design

For the first time yesterday the Jawa 300 Classic roadster was spied testing. The test proto, although heavily camouflaged, revealed the overall silhouette of the bike. While we have presented a speculative digital interpretation of the Jawa 300 Classic roadster, the actual design is somewhat comparable to the Jawa 350 OHC.

The bike will feature the signature kidney-shaped fuel tank and the round halogen headlamp. However, the classic design is augmented by the raised handlebar, brown leather-wrapped single-piece seat and the reasonably long fenders at the front and back. A rear grab rail is welded onto the tail section.

The double cradle chassis holds the vertically placed liquid cooling radiator. There’s a fixation with chrome detailing on classic bikes, and the upcoming Jawa motorcycle will have it in abundance. Chrome garnish can be spotted on parts like the steel rims, engine, handlebar, rear shocks and the twin exhausts.

Features

Staying true to the authentic Jawa philosophy, the motorcycle is likely to come equipped with halogen headlights, conventional indicators, and a semi-digital instrument cluster. As far as safety features are concerned, the Jawa 300 Classic roadster will receive a front disc brake and a rear drum setup, while it is expected to come with a single-channel ABS unit as standard.

Variants

While Classic Legends is tight-lipped about the upcoming Jawa motorcycle, media reports suggest that the company will launch three Jawa motorcycles in India. We know for sure that the first of these will be a neo-retro roadster.

The test mule, spotted yesterday, is reminiscent of a classic motorcycle. The other two could be a café racer and a scrambler or a bobber.

Engine & Transmission

On October 12, Classic Legends revealed photos of the all-new 293 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, DOHC, 4-valve engine that will propel the new Jawa motorcycle. The fuel-injected motor is capable of pumping out 27 bhp of maximum power at 8,000 rpm and 28 Nm of peak torque at 6,500 rpm.

A six-speed transmission will transfer the control to the wheel via a final chain drive. While Classic Legends claim that the engine is all-new, it is primarily based on the Mahindra Mojo's engine architecture.

The company claims that the motor has been to produce a robust mid-range performance and a flat torque curve. The company has meticulously worked with a group of acoustics engineers to generate the signature exhaust note, which is reminiscent to the vintage 2-stroke Jawa bikes.

Suspension & Wheels

The Jawa 300 Classic roadster will come equipped telescopic forks at the front (similar to the Classic 350) and inverted gas-charged twin coil-spring shock absorbers at the back. The motorcycle gets a box-type swingarm.

The test bike is seen with wire-spoke wheels at the front and back, wrapped onto MRF Nylogrip Zapper tube-type tyres. While we don’t have any information about the rim sizes, first impressions suggest it to be 18-inches, similar to the Royal Enfield Classic 350.

Launch Date

While the motorcycle's unveiling is scheduled for 15 November, we can expect the company to launch the first Jawa 300 Classic roadster in India by January next year. A report from November 2017 claimed that Classic Legends will introduce the first Jawa motorcycle before March 2019.

Pricing

Regarding design and features, the 300 Classic roadster will stay true to the Jawa ethos. As can be seen from the spy images, the bike comes devoid of any fancy features or even a rear disc brake. We expect Classic Legends to price the motorcycle at INR 1.5 lakh (ex-showroom).

Competition

The Jawa 300 Classic roadster will be a neo-retro offering that will rival the likes of the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and the Thunderbird 350. It will also face some competition from the UM Renegade Commando Classic and the Bajaj Avenger 200 Street.
