In an interview with MoneyControl, Pawan Goenka, Managing Director, Mahindra & Mahindra revealed that the first bike under the Jawa brand will be launched in India by the end of next fiscal (March 2019).
Mahindra has a 60-percent stake in Classic Legends Private Limited (CLPL), a subsidiary of Mahindra and Mahindra. The Indian company acquired BSA through CLPL in 2016; and obtained licenses for the Czech brand Jawa. Speaking to the media house about Mahindra’s two-wheeler business, Goenka said:
The two-wheeler business has been demerged into Mahindra & Mahindra and the business continues with the current product range that we have. We have reduced our losses significantly. As far as Peugeot business is concerned as of now we have put on hold any plans to bring those scooter to India because we were not able to meet the price point to those based on the price expectations in India. We will be launching the first product under the Jawa brand before the end of next financial year.

It could be possible that the first motorcycle would be the Jawa 350, which was launched in the Czech Republic in May 2017. Powering the 2017 Jawa 350 OHC is a 397 cc engine. It is capable of producing 27.73 PS of maximum power at 6,500 rpm; and 30.6 Nm of peak torque at 5,000 rpm. The mill pairs with a five-speed gearbox, and has a top speed of 130 km/h.

The bike gets a 12-litre fuel tank, has a 160 kg dry weight and features an electric start as well. It is also the Czech brand's first motorcycle to get ABS. The front brake is a 280 mm disc while the rear is a 160 mm drum unit. When launched in India, the first bike under the brand could be an ideal competitor to Royal Enfield Bullet 350, Classic 350, and the upcoming Benelli Imperiale 400.
