First major facelift since the launch of second gen Scorpio in 2014.
Autocar India reader Mohd. Siddique has spotted the Mahindra Scorpio with its front and rear fascias wrapped up, suggesting that a facelift is in the works. This is the first major change to the second gen Mahindra Scorpio since its launch in 2014. It could launch later this year or early next year for sale.
It's quite hard to tell what's changed, but expect design tweaks to the headlamps, taillamps, grille and bumpers, as well as a few new exterior colours like the new Lake-Side Brown. Expect little changes to the dimensions, the current model is 4,456 mm long, 1,820 mm wide, 1,995 mm high, and has a wheelbase of 2,680 mm. As for the interior, we reckon the new Scorpio will feature revised seat upholstery options, new interior colour combinations and an updated touchscreen infotainment system, which could source Android Auto, EcoSense and Connected Apps from the Mahindra XUV500.
Autocar reports that M&M will equip the more powerful mHawk 140 2.2L turbodiesel 4-cyl engine (20 hp more) in the 2018 Mahindra Scorpio. In the XUV500, the mHawk 140 produces 140 bhp and 330 Nm of torque paired to a 6-speed manual gearbox or an Aisin-sourced 6-Speed Automatic gearbox. Expect fuel mileage to be slightly lesser than the current Scorpio's 12 km/L average.
Last year, the Scorpio witnessed a decline in sales, selling 47,256 units in the whole calendar year of 2016, as compared to 50,965 and 51,089 units in 2014 and 2015, respectively. With an influx of compact SUVs like the 2018 Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, Renault Captur, Maruti Vitara Brezza variants and the 2018 Hyundai Creta, a facelift could help spike sales of one of Mahindra's bread and butter products.
