With the fifth-gen Honda CR-V all set in the market, Honda has started working on the third-gen Acura RDX. Temple of VTEC reader Hondanutt has spotted the 2019 Acura RDX outside Honda R&D Americas in Ohio.
The next-gen Acura RDX will ride on the same modular platform as the Honda CR-V. The platform originates from the tenth-gen Honda Civic and underpins the tenth-gen Honda Accord as well. The current model is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine. In China, there’s a 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine under the hood. The U.S.-spec version will likely see the 2018 Honda Accord’s 2.0-litre turbocharged inline-four cylinder petrol engine replacing the V6 mill. Additionally, the second-gen i-MMD two-motor hybrid system may find its place in the next-gen Acura RDX.
The all-new Honda CR-V is longer, wider and taller than the model it replaces. The Acura RDX too should grow in dimensions similarly. The current model is 4,685 mm long, 1,872 mm wide and 1,650 mm tall.

The 2019 Acura RDX should feature the latest version of AcuraWatch suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies. Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Keeping Assist System and Adaptive Cruise Control are already available in the current model. The next-gen Acura RDX should debut sometime next year, with sales commencing in early 2019.
