The facelifted Audi A3 Sedan would be inspired by the fifth-gen Audi A4.
The introduction of the third generation Audi A3 saw the addition of a sedan version to the range. The Audi A3 Sedan was unveiled at 2013 Auto Shanghai and entered production in June the same year. It was launched in India last year.
In 2016, the entry-level Audi sedan will receive a facelift to catch up with the brand's latest design language and gain some new features. Two speculative renderings by in-house automotive illustrator Shoeb Kalania preview how the 2016 Audi A3 (facelift) will possibly look like.
The 2016 Audi A3 Sedan (facelift) will see revisions based on the fifth generation Audi A4 that was unveiled at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. The front-end should get new Matrix LED headlights, singleframe grille, air inlets and bumper. The sides should see no changes, except a few new alloy wheel designs. The rear-end would incorporate revised tail lights with new graphics aping the A4.
Inside, the new model will feature the new Audi virtual cockpit fully digital instrument cluster and changes to the colours and trims.
The facelifted 2016 Audi A3 Sedan/2016 Audi S3 Sedan should continue with the same engine and transmission choices from now. An earlier report claimed that the A3 sedan would get cylinder activation technology on the 1.8 TFSI, while the Golf's 1.0 TSI three-cylinder would be augmented to the range.
The 2015 A3 Sedan range includes four models in Germany.
- [FWD] 1.4-litre TFSI turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 125 PS and 200 Nm of torque, mated a 6-speed manual transmission (7-speed S tronic optional)
- [FWD] 1.8-litre TFSI turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 180 PS and 250 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission
- [Quattro AWD] 1.8-litre TFSI turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 180 PS and 280 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed S tronic transmission
- [FWD] 1.6-litre TDI turbocharged four-cylinder diesel diesel engine producing 110 PS and 250 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual transmission (7-speed S tronic optional)
The 2015 S3 Sedan is offered exclusively with a 2.0-litre TFSI turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine good for 300 PS and 380 Nm of torque. The engine is linked to a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, but 6-speed S tronic transmission is available optionally. Power is distributed to the wheels via the quattro permanent all-wheel drive system.
In India, the Audi A3 comes with a 1.8-liter TFSI unit generating 177 bhp and is mated to 7-speed dual-clutch S tronic transmission, or a 2.0-liter TDI four-cylinder diesel with 143 bhp and 320 Nm of torque paired to a 6-speed dual-clutch S tronic transmission. Expect the facelift to keep these powertrain configurations in India when it launches in 2017.
