The scooter was reportedly ridden next to the TVS Jupiter and Honda Activa.
A new test unit of a Yamaha branded scooter has been spotted by a BikeAdvice reader in Chennai. The scooter is claimed to carry the tuning fork logo near the taillamp and grab rail.
Yamaha India updated the Yamaha Cygnus Alpha with a new digital instrumentation recently (with Eco and Trip meter). The spy picture reveals that the scooter has a clear resemblance of the Yamaha Fascino but the taillamp and the layout of the rear indicators are new. The report also claims that the test unit was benchmarked against the TVS Jupiter and Honda Activa.
The exhaust canister gets a chrome heat shield, and the side panel has the name hidden with black tape. Powertrain details cannot be guessed, and chances of the scooter carrying the 125 cc mill are slim but cannot be ruled out. The new scooter may bear the same 113 cc powerplant seen in Yamaha India’s automatic scooter range.
The air-cooled, SOHC mill in the Yamaha Fascino is coupled to a V-belt automatic gearbox. The engine is capable of producing 7.1 PS of maximum power at 7,500 rpm and 8.1 Nm of peak torque at 5,000 rpm.
