Following its spy photo debut this morning, Autocar India has shared pics of the upcoming Maruti Baleno and Hyundai i20 rival spotted testing alongside a Maruti Swift. The X451 will become Tata's first product based on the AMP (Advanced Modular Platform) when it arrives on the market in 2019.
The prototype wears heavy camouflage, but the silhouette of the X451 is still quite evident from the spy pictures. According to the story published by Autocar India, the Tata X451 will be longer than the Tiago by about 200 mm. However, it will be a sub-4 m offering, which will help qualify it as a small car. Although the test mule is equipped with dummy headlamps and tail lamps. The spy pictures also reveal a roofline that tapers downwards towards the rear and a C-pillar mounted rear door handle.
The report adds that the Tata X451 petrol will be powered by the Tiago's 1.2 L Revotron petrol engine albeit with a higher output. Diesel variants too will source their engine from the Tiago. However, a Variable Geometry Turbocharger (VGT) will be used to increase the power output. There has been the talk of the upcoming Tata premium hatchback sourcing the 1.2 L petrol and 1.5 L turbocharged engines from the Tata Nexon.

The launch of the Tata X451 is expected to take place in 2019. It will roll out of the company's manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat. Tata Motors may even showcase a pre-production version of the X451 at the upcoming Auto Expo starting February 9, 2018. A sedan based on the same platform is under development as well.
