Tata X451 Premium Hatchback launch in 2019
The first product based on the AMP (Advanced Modular Platform) will be the X451 hatchback. It will be launched sometime in 2019.

First reports of Tata developing the X451 hatchback emerged in June 2016. It will utilise the all new platform that has been devised to offer flexibility in terms of size to enable engineers to develop products across multiple segments. Economies of scale will enable Tata Motors to keep costs in check.

With Tata ditching the 1.3 L Fiat soured Multijet for new and future products, the X451 is likely to get engines developed in-house. Keeping the premium nature of the hatchback in mind, it could receive the Tata Nexon's diesel and petrol powertrains. Tata intends to equip around 50% of its range with AMT gearboxes and the X451 could also get this transmission option.

As reported in June 2016, Tata Motors is planning at least six new cars. Apart from the X451 hatchback, Tata is also keen to enter the executive sedan segment. Like the X451, the sedan will be based on AMP. Also under development are two brand new SUVs based on the Land Rover Discovery Sport's platform scheduled to arrive next fiscal year.

The X451 hatchback will be followed by more AMP based products including an executive sedan.

VW was keen to utilise the AMP for market specific products and Skoda had explored the possibility of basing its cars on Tata's platform on behalf of its owners. However, optimization of AMP to suit VW's needs was deemed too expensive leading to the two companies calling off the strategic partnership.
