IAB reader Sameer Gupta has sent a spy shot of a Suzuki Wagon R electric that was spotted testing in Gurugram. Previously IAB reader Rajeev Kumar had spied the EV undergoing testing on the Delhi-Jaipur highway. Maruti Suzuki has put 50 such prototypes on the Indian roads for testing.
The Suzuki Wagon R electric prototypes that are being tested on the Indian roads are based on the current JDM-spec Wagon R which went on sale in February 2017. The 50 test units have been imported from Japan via the CKD route and have been assembled at the company's Gurugram-based facility. The prototypes use an electric motor that gets its juice from a 72-volt, 10.25 kWh battery.
The Suzuki Wagon R EV seen here isn't India-bound. Maruti Suzuki is using these prototypes for only testing their electric powertrain. It will use the data gathered from the testing for the validation and launch of an EV based on the next-gen Wagon R. The JDM-spec Wagon R sits on the Heartect platform and is too expensive for our market.
