The new Suzuki Jimny will be hitting the Japanese market this month. SMC is yet to announce the vehicle for global markets. Media reports from the Philippines and Thailand suggest strongly that the fourth generation Jimny is headed to South East Asia.
The Philippines based Autodeal is of the opinion that Suzuki is likely to bring the new Jimny to their shores to bolster its current lineup. The company launched the updated Suzuki Vitara in the last quarter of 2017, followed by the third generation Suzuki Dzire in April 2018. The 2018 Suzuki Swift has just gone on sale highlighting the company's aggressive product strategy.
Thai publication Auto Spinn believes that the Suzuki Jimny will be a great addition to the company's lineup. However, it adds that the MD, Sales and Marketing of Suzuki Motor Thailand, has stated that currently there are no plans to launch the Jimny in the country, although he did not rule out an eventual launch in the Thai market as a Japanese import.
As for other international markets, the 2019 Suzuki Jimny was spotted testing on European roads on multiple occasions during its development phase. In August last year, it was reported that the off-road vehicle will reach the UK in 2019. Expect sales to commence in European markets in early 2019.
The JDM Suzuki Jimny enlists 0.6 L and 1.5 L petrol engines developing 64 PS and 102 PS respectively. A part-time 4x4 system along with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission sends power to the wheels. Leaked information from over the past few weeks has revealed the Suzuki Jimny's price and grade-wise features. In its top-spec avatar, the Suzuki Jimny gets LED projector headlights, alloy wheels, touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, a multifunction steering wheel, and dual sensor brake support.
