20 years after the introduction of the third generation Jimny, Suzuki has taken the wraps off its successor. Comparing the two side by side helps bring out all the changes in the new version.

The neo-retro design of the new Jimny harks back to that of the second generation model. It gets a similar black grille structure that also houses round headlamps, as well a clamshell bonnet and bumper mounted tail lights. Compared to the second generation Jimny, the new one is edgier, has a flatter bonnet and upright nose with black bumpers. The wheel arches get black cladding as well and are no longer perfect arcs. At the back, the vertical taillights mounted on the rear door of the second generation model are gone.

The 2019 Suzuki Jimny retains the tailgate-mounted spare wheel. Interestingly, the ORVMs of both models are quite similar. The alloy wheels worn by the new model have a paint finish similar to its predecessor but have a different design. Other notable features of the 2019 Suzuki Jimny include a roof mounted antenna placed towards the rear right, projector headlamps, integrated high mounted rear stop lamp and no roof rails.

The dashboard carries forward the utilitarian look but has gained all the modern features. Main additions include a touchscreen infotainment system with Bluetooth support, multifunction steering wheel with audio and phone control, automatic climate control, a multi-information display (MID) placed between the speedo and tachometer, and cruise control. Both 3-door hardtop versions feature seating for four.

The JDM-spec new Suzuki Jimny will be offered in a regular variant with a 660 cc petrol engine. The Suzuki Jimny Sierra will come with a bigger 1.5 L engine. Both variants will come with either a 5-speed MT or a 4-speed AT and part time 4x4 across all grades.
