Maruti is working on a replacement for its Alto K10 small car, and the new model is reported to go on sale by January next year. Based on the Alto 800's body, the new Alto K10 was spied near one of Maruti's factory.
Previous spy images have pointed out to larger taillights, inspired by the Celerio's, and a wider chrome grille. The doors and body panels however seem carried over from the Alto 800.
Power for the new K10 is expected to come from the existing three-cylinder 1.0-liter K-Series engine which produces 68 PS at 6,200 rpm and 90 Nm of torque at 3,500 rpm. A 5-speed cable-operated manual gearbox will be paired to this engine. Interestingly, a media report revealed that Maruti may offer the new K10 with AMT (automated manual transmission) as well. The current K10 is good for 20.92 km/l and similar or higher efficiency can be expected from the newer model.
Maruti would do well to spruce up the interiors of the car to give it some differentiation from the Alto 800, which falls in the segment under it. Given the features available to the current K10, its possible to expect features power steering, central locking, front power windows, full wheel covers and internally adjustable wing mirrors on the new model.
The new K10 will take the fight to the Datsun Go and the newly launched Hyundai Eon 1.0-liter.
