Reported to come with a 6-speed unit.
With the launch of the new-generation Scorpio last year, Mahindra is now all set to launch an automatic variant of its celebrated SUV. Motoroctane reports that the Scorpio AT is likely to be launched next month, by mid-April, and snapped a prototype on test.
The automatic gearbox for the Scorpio is expected to be a six-speed unit, likely to be supplied by component maker Aisin. The top-of-the-line S10 variant will get the AT option, says the report. Mahindra is expected to price the AT version around Rs. 1 lakh more than the manual variant.
The Scorpio uses a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine that generates 120 bhp and 280 Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission comes standard with the new Scorpio that went on sale last year.
The Scorpio AT, once launched, would be the only vehicle in its class with an automatic gearbox, as rivals such as the Renault Duster and Nissan Terrano come with a manual transmission only.

Mahindra also plans on introducing the XUV500 with an automatic transmission. Entry-level products like the Quanto and the forthcoming U301 are expected to get an automated manual transmission.
