Baleno to be first car to enter production at new Gujarat plant.
According to a report in the Economic Times, Maruti-Suzuki will increase production of the Maruti Vitara Brezza compact SUV and the Maruti Baleno premium hatchback.
India's largest carmaker originally planned to produce 80,000 units of the Vitara Brezza in the first year, which was later revised to 100,000 units owing to strong initial demand (the Vitara Brezza received over 40,000 bookings within the initial weeks). Now, Maruti plans on producing 120,000 units of the Vitara Brezza, which would help in lowering waiting periods which stand at 4-5 months at the moment.
The increase in production will also help Maruti serve nearby export markets. By the end of this month, the Vitara Brezza will go on sale in Nepal, and by end of this year, the compact SUV is expected on the Indonesian market as well.

Meanwhile, production of the Baleno is reported to increase to around 165,000 units/annum. India is the global production hub, and exports the Baleno to markets in Europe, Asia (including Japan) and from Q3 this year, Australia as well. The Baleno will be the first car to be produced at the Suzuki-owned manufacturing plant in Gujarat which is expected to start operations in early-2017.
