Will launch this fiscal year.
The Mahindra S101 has been spotted again testing in Chennai, this time by IAB's deputy editor Anjan Ravi, outside Chennai. The pseudo-crossover is confirmed for a market launch in the current fiscal.
A lot has been uncovered about the S101, including its market name which could be the Mahindra XUV100. It is the second product in the company's portfolio to be based on a monocoque platform after the XUV500.
The car is expected to be priced from INR 4 lakhs. It will compete with the likes of Maruti Celerio, Hyundai Grand i10 and Chevrolet Beat.
While these spyshots do not reveal anything new, recent images of the S101 prototypes revealed the wheel cover design, rear fog lamps and chrome bezel around the same, and Chevrolet Beat-like pillar-mounted rear door handles.
Powering the Mahindra S101 is confirmed to be a 1.2-litre petrol engine which will debut on the car. The diesel version is likely to be powered by the new mHawk 80 1.5-litre three-cylinder motor that was unveiled recently on the Mahindra TUV300 and there was a smaller 1.2-liter unit that was also rumored.
Transmission options for the Mahindra XUV100 would include a 5-speed manual gearbox and an Automated version of the same, both sending power to the front wheels.
