Hyundai Motors India Limited have revealed the international-spec of the China-only ix25 in Chennai, India, today - dubbed the Hyundai Creta. The compact SUV follows high localization for competitive pricing, and will be the company's next big ticket product to take on established rivals like the Mahindra Scorpio, Ford EcoSport and Renault Duster.
Hyundai have confirmed that it will be available in four separate trims: Base, S, SX and SX (O). Top variants get projector headlights, LED DRLs, a 3-slat chrome grille, 16-inch alloy wheels, chrome door handles with keyless entry, rear wiper/washer with a micro antenna, and a chrome-embellished registration plate enclosure at the rear.
Exterior features exclusive to the top SX(O) variant are projector headlights with cornering function, 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels, chrome enclosure for taillamps, and chrome slashing on the lower rear fascia.
Inside, the Hyundai Creta comes with a multifunctional 3-spoke steering wheel, an instrument cluster similar to the Elite i20, CD slot, and hands-free bluetooth connectivity. Lower variants will get a fabric upholstery and a small infotainment display, while the range-topping SX(O) variant is upholstered in leather, features a 7-inch AVN touchscreen display and equipped with six airbags
The engine lineup is confirmed to pack one petrol and two diesel engines. The former is a 1.6 dual VTVT petrol unit delivering 123 PS through a 6-speed manual gearbox, while the latter is a choice between a 1.4-liter U2 CRDi diesel and a more-powerful 1.6-liter CRDi producing 128 PS.
The 1.6-liter CRDi diesel motor is available with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmissions. Hyundai claims to have performed minor tweaks and gear ratio optimization to yield a higher fuel economy in the Creta. At the moment, official ARAI-certified fuel consumption figures have not been divulged.
The Hyundai Creta will launch in India on July 21, where the pricing of each variant will be revealed. The company has also confirmed that the Creta manufactured in Chennai, India, will be exported to other countries.
