The Fiat Punto is currently in its third generation now, and after over a decade, Fiat is set to introduce the fourth generation. The next-gen Fiat Punto (codename: Fiat X6H) has been spied testing by Autos Segredos reader Samuel Guimaraes.

The next-gen Fiat Punto is said to be based on a stretched and an updated version of the Fiat 326 platform. The same platform is said to form basis for the the next-gen Fiat Linea (codename: Fiat X6S) also. The next-gen Punto and the next-gen Linea will be positioned below the Fiat Tipo hatchback and Fiat Egea (Fiat Tipo) saloon respectively.
The next-gen Fiat Punto and the next-gen Fiat Linea will be available with new 1.3-litre GSE engine that develops over 100 hp and around 14 kgf-m (137.29 Nm) of torque. This engine should be available with 5-speed manual and 5-speed automatic transmission choices. The new 1.8-litre E.torQ EVO unit from the Fiat Toro will also be offered, with 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission from the Jeep Renegade.

At a later stage, Fiat will also launch a performance variant of the Punto, powered by a 1.3-litre GSE Turbo engine that will likely produce over 150 CV (150 hp). According to a recent report, the standard next-gen Punto and its sedan counterpart will be offered with engine start-stop system, electronic power steering and Traction Control System (TCS).
