Will be priced below the Renault Kwid.
After teasing the car's silhouette last week, Datsun today revealed that it will retain the name 'Datsun redi-GO' on the production model. The complete exterior has been teased in a set of renderings, ahead of its world premiere in New Delhi on April 14.
The new images confirm that the Datsun redi-GO concept unveiled at Auto Expo 2014 has barely changed in its way to production. Tweaks have been given to the bumpers, headlamps, door mirrors and tail lamps, in the view to reduce manufacturing cost.
The first Renault-Nissan Alliance's CMF-A platform-based Datsun is not a replica of its mechanical cousin Renault Kwid. While the Renault Kwid has a mini-SUV character, the Datsun redi-GO looks sleeker and sportier. It relatively looks more premium, but a lot can be said only after seeing the actual car.
The Datsun redi-GO will be positioned below the Renault Kwid that was launched with prices starting at INR 2.56 lakhs (ex-showroom New Delhi). It will likely be powered by Renault's 0.8-litre SCe three-cylinder petrol engine that develops 54 PS (53 hp) and 74 Nm of torque in the Renault Kwid. The latter's 5-speed manual transmission should also be shared.

The 1.0-litre petrol engine and the automated manual transmission that will be offered in the Renault Kwid should be eventually available to customers of the redi-GO. A report last month said that a new 1.0-litre three-cylinder diesel engine is being developed, which the redi-GO could get first use of.
