Expected to be introduced in 2017.
Autocar Professional reports that Nissan is working on a new 1.0-liter three cylinder diesel engine for its entry-level products, which could be introduced in the upcoming CMF-A-based Datsun redi-GO.
According to one of the sources of the report, the Renault-Nissan Alliance were not planning to introduce a diesel engine for the CMF-A platform, but the strong appeal for compact diesel hatchbacks in India have got Nissan and Renault officials discussing on introducing such an option.
If the report is true, this could be seen as a move to draw attention from the Datsun redi-GO's rivals, such as the Maruti Alto K10 and Renault Kwid which aren't available with a diesel option. However, the diesel variant of the redi-GO will only arrive in 2017.

As for the variant that will make its world premiere on April 14, it reportedly packs a 0.8-liter engine from the Renault Kwid that outputs 54 PS and 74 Nm. The 5-speed manual gearbox is, reportedly, retuned for shorter ratios in first and second gears.
