Teaser hints at the inclusion of laser-powered headlamps.
BMW India has posted the first teaser of the 2016 BMW 7 Series on its social media handles, which hints at the inclusion of laser-powered headlamps. The new 7 Series will be the second car in India to offer laser headlamps, first being the limited edition Audi R8 LMX.
The new BMW 7 Series will make its Indian debut at the Auto Expo 2016 in Noida, along with the next gen 2016 BMW X1. Exclusive customer previews are being held to give prospective customers a closer look.
BMW India could launch the petrol 740Li variant, given the new restrictions placed on diesel cars in Delhi, an important market for the car. This variant in the USA is powered by a 3.0-liter twin-scroll turbo inline-6 engine that belts out 320 hp @ 5,200-6,500 rpm and 330 lb-ft @ 1,380 rpm, and is paired to an 8-speed ZF Steptronic gearbox.
The mainstay of the variants will be the 730Ld, which packs a six-cylinder diesel engine making 265 PS (7 PS more than the outgoing model), and is paired to the same 8-speed automatic gearbox. Power is sent to the rear wheels, while fuel efficiency is rated at 22.2 km/L (EU cycle).
The exterior design of the new 7 Series draws some inspiration from the BMW Gran Lusso Concept, featuring a bolder kidney grille with active cooling, LED foglamps, more chrome details, LED taillamps and dual exhaust tips. Laser headlamps are likely to be standard in the top-end variant, while lower variants will be equipped with LED units.
