Both models have arrived in India for homologation.
According to a report on the Economic Times, BMW India will launch the 2016 BMW 7 Series and a 'small SUV' in the first quarter of 2016. The publication spoke to Frank Schloeder, Director, Marketing of BMW India. Both products will be displayed at the Auto Expo 2016, which takes place in the first week of February 2016.
A BMW India spokesperson told Indian Autos Blog last month that the market launch of the 2016 7 Series will take place at the Auto Expo. The luxury car has already been previewed to select customers in an event that took place in Goa last month.
Based on BMW's Carbon Core architecture, the 2016 7 Series is expected to be introduced in India exclusively in the long wheelbase variant. A 3.0-liter six-cylinder diesel engine developing 265 hp will power the 730 Ld variant, while petrol variants with six- and eight-cylinder engines could also be introduced. An 8-speed automatic transmission will be standard across the range.
The 'small SUV' in question is the second-generation BMW X1, which was revealed in June this year. The new X1 rides on BMW's front-wheel drive UKL platform, and is 135 kg lighter than its predecessor. Where the outgoing model has an estate-like look, the 2016 X1 is designed more aggressive and also promises better interior space: the wheelbase has grown by 90 mm, boot space by 85 liters and rear knee room has improved by 37 mm.

The new X1 will rival the likes of the Mercedes GLA and Audi Q3 when launched. Prices are expected between INR 30-35 lakhs, ex-Showroom.
