2020 Mahindra Thar Front
The 2020 Mahindra Thar will be based on the same ladder-frame chassis as the 2020 Mahindra Scorpio.

The 2020 Mahindra Thar will sport evolutionary changes, and unlike the first-gen model will focus on comfort creatures as well, in order to suit even as an everyday SUV which will help the company achieve better sales volumes. The new-gen model will be slightly bigger. It will have the classical design elements such as the signature seven-slot vertical grille, front fender-mounted direction indicators, a broad and flat bonnet, circular halogen headlamps, vertical brick-shaped combination lamps and side-hinged tailgate with a spare wheel mounted on it.

Mahindra has laid special stress on making the 2020 Thar more comfort-oriented. The all-new model will feature a completely new cabin layout with a redesigned all-black dashboard, a digital-analogue instrument panel with a huge mid-placed MID, a new multi-function steering wheel, round AC vents, new AC control dials with silver finishes and also be a new repositioned passenger grab-handle. Furthermore, its seats will comprise contrast stitching and will carry extra padding and support for extended comfort. A big update on inside will be the use of front-facing rear-seats.

The next-gen Mahindra Thar will be based on a more robust ladder-frame chassis in order to comply with the upcoming BNVSAP crash tests norms which will be seen in action from 1 October 2019. Apart from that, it will now pack mandatory safety features such as driver airbag, rear parking sensors, speed alert system and more which will be standard throughout its variant list.

Under the hood, it will employ a newly-developed, BS-VI compliant 2.0-litre diesel engine which will deliver 140 PS of maximum power and 300 Nm of peak torque and will be BS-VI compliant. A 6-speed manual gearbox will be standard. There will be an option for a manually-operated 4WD system.
