Red-coloured BS-VI Bajaj Dominar 400 spotted at Chakan plant

Thrust Zone claims to have photographed the BS-VI version of the Bajaj Dominar 400 at the company’s Chakan plant. It says that the BS-VI compliant model could arrive by Diwali this year. Interestingly, the alleged BS-VI version is painted in red colour which is not offered in the BS-IV version. The flagship Bajaj bike is currently sold in Auroral Green and Matte Black paint options.

Bajaj Auto has updated the engine of the Dominar 400 in its latest iteration and the motorcycle now uses a Dual Overhead Camshaft (DOHC), which has brought it one step closer to BS-VI compliance. The updated 373.3 cc liquid-cooled, DOHC engine with fuel injection tech makes more power now. It is tuned to produce 40 PS at 8,650 rpm and 35 Nm at 7,000 rpm.

Bajaj Auto has not made any announcements about the launch timeline for the BS-VI-compliant Dominar 400. As for the red colour, Bajaj Auto has already shown it the motorcycle's promotional videos. Company officials had confirmed during the media ride that the 2019 Dominar 400 could receive new colour options if there is sufficient demand.

The MY2019 update increased the sales of the Dominar 400 brand by 59% in May 2019. Prior to the MY2019 update, the Dominar 400's sales were falling. Check out the sales performance in the table below:

To give you a quick recap, the 2019 Bajaj Dominar 400 is available for INR 1,74,125*, which is approximately INR 11,000 higher than the old model's 1,63,075*price tag. For that premium, the flagship model gets better hardware and performance numbers. The power output has been mentioned above. The more premium components on the motorcycle include:

  • Upside down forks at the front
  • Updated instrument console
  • New twin barrel exhaust
  • Forged steel side stand
  • Updated mirror design
  • Cast aluminium stalks for the mirrors
  • Bungee straps

Bajaj Auto had shown two new shades for the 2019 Dominar 400, Red and Silver, in a promotional video.

Revised braking setup includes radially mounted 320 mm disc at the front that now sits on the left side of the motorcycle and a 230 mm disc at the rear. The braking system is aided by dual-channel ABS as standard.
