The SsangYong Tivoli based Mahindra S201 has been spotted testing once again. The spy shots were shared by IAB readers, Prashoy and Rishath Suresh who spotted the pre-production prototype undergoing testing in Chennai.
The first set of Mahindra S201 spy shots depicts a test mule with pre-production tail lamps and steel rims with wheel covers. It misses out on roof rails and rear wiper indicating that this could be a lower-spec grade of the S201. The second set features production-spec tail lamps showing the LED glow pattern. This test mule does get roof rails, rear wiper, and possible black alloy wheels, which leads us to believe that this could one of the top-end trims of the Mahindra S201.
Last week, images revealing the interior of the S201 partially surfaced online. The switchgear on the driver-side door panel and the large central display for the infotainment system and controls look similar to the SsangYong Tivoli's. A previous sighting revealed split spoke alloy wheels.
1.2-litre turbocharged petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines will, reportedly, power the Maruti Vitara Brezza rival. While the one seen in spy shots here will have a 5-seat layout, a stretched version, similar to the SsangYong Tivoli Air, measuring over four metres and accommodating a third row of seats is also part of the plan.
Mahindra intends to launch the SsangYong Tivoli derived S201 by this festive season. Expect pricing to fall in the INR 7-11 lakh bracket rivaling the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, Tata Nexon, and Honda WR-V.
