The Mahindra S201 is steadily heading towards the production line. Team-BHP forum member srinath34 recently spied the vehicle with production body panels, tail lamps and alloy wheels, indicating the advancement.
The production Mahindra S201 has features like horizontal tail lamps possibly with LED lighting, rear fog lamps, double-spoke alloy wheels, roof rails and roof spoiler with integrated stop lamp. Unlike the SsangYong Tivoli, from which it borrows the X100 platform, it has a license plate recess on the tailgate instead of the bumper. Another difference is the body length, with the Mahindra measuring no longer than four metres to qualify as a small car for lower taxation.
The Mahindra S201 will come with 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol and 1.5-litre diesel engines. It will have a 5-seat layout. A stretched version measuring over four metres is the next planned variant, similar to the SsangYong Tivoli Air. Unlike the SsangYong’s Tivoli’s stretched version, the extended Mahindra S201’s will use the additional space for two extra seats at the back, not for expanded luggage space. This 7-seat version will also employ 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol and 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engines.
