Less than a month away from the facelifted Hyundai i20’s world debut at Auto Expo 2018, Hyundai continues testing camouflaged units on the roads. Reader Dr. Kumar Palaniappan recently spotted a 2018 Hyundai i20 undergoing road testing in Chennai.
The second-gen Hyundai i20 will receive several exterior changes with the mid-cycle refresh this year. At the front, the 2018 Hyundai i20 will incorporate the Cascading grille, the brand’s new signature design element. The lower grille, bumper and fog lamps too will have a new look.
On the sides, nothing more than new alloy wheel design is expected in the new Hyundai i20. At the rear, Hyundai has redesigned the tailgate, repositioned the license plate from the lower bumper to the tailgate and installed new tail lamps inspired by those of the Hyundai i30. Needless to say, the rear bumper too will have a new look in the updated i20. Spy media suggests that the 2018 i20 will have chrome trim on the central air vents and reduced number of buttons on the sides of the touchscreen infotainment system.

With the MY2018 update, Hyundai will discontinue the 1.4-litre MPi petrol engine and the 4-speed automatic transmission in the Hyundai i20. A continuously variable transmission will take the 4-speed automatic transmission’s place. The company will offer the CVT with a 1.2-litre petrol engine.
The 2018 Hyundai i20’s market launch could coincide with its unveiling next month.
