IAB reader Vijayendran has shared spy pictures of a test mule of the 2018 Hyundai i20 (facelift). HMIL will roll out a mid-life refresh of the hatchback early next year. It will get an updated exterior as evident from the numerous sightings of test mules over the past 8 months or so.
Majority of the spy shots have captured the rear end of the 2018 Hyundai i20. Updates include new tail lamp graphics and the migration of the number plate from the bumper to the bootlid. The images also reveal new alloy wheels finished in black. These look different from the Mercedes CLA-like rims spotted on test mules in the past. The example seen in these images does not feature projector headlamps indicating that this may the Asta trim of the i20.
Based on previous spy shots, the front end will get Hyundai's signature 'Cascading' grille and tweaks to the front bumper and fog lamp enclosures. While the exterior will get some major updates, changes to the interior are likely to be less prominent.
The Hyundai i20 currently employs a 1.2 L Kappa petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual transmission, a 1.4 L Gamma petrol paired with a 4-speed automatic, and a 1.4 L U2 CRDi diesel mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. Expect these engine and transmission options to be carried over.
