The Yamaha R15’s third iteration, the v3.0 features a host of design and mechanical changes. The bike is now designed to look more in line with its bigger cousin, the 2017 Yamaha YZF R1. The Yamaha R15 v3.0 is already on sale in Indonesia, but the Indian model comes with a few changes to make it more affordable. The bike was spotted for the first time, yesterday.

The design of the bodywork is the same as the one in the international market. However, the front fender looks like it has been borrowed from the R15 v2.0. The pillion foot pegs also use traditional support instead of the aluminium units.

In the international market, the Yamaha R15 v3.0 employs a 155cc single cylinder mill with liquid cooling and fuel injection. The powerplant punches out 19.31 PS of power and 14.7 Nm of torque. In comparison, the 149 cc engine in the R15 v2.0 makes 17 PS of power and 15 Nm of torque. The engine works in tandem with 6-speed transmission with slipper clutch. Expect Yamaha to omit the slipper clutch due to cost constraints. The engine casing in the test mule is similar to the one in the international bike, except for the presence of brand marking in the Indian version.
Yamaha has provided the Indian version of the bike with a traditional telescopic fork instead of the upside down units for better affordability. The rear end uses a monoshock. Brakes include discs on both ends, and ABS is absent. The alloy wheels are shod with MRF tyres. The bike will reportedly be launched in February 2018. Expect Yamaha to price the R15 v3.0 in the INR 1.20-1.30 lakh (ex-showroom) range.
