Earlier this week, the Yamaha R15 v3.0 was spied in India for the first time. According to a report from Overdrive, Yamaha will launch the all-new R15 in India by February 2018.
The Yamaha R15 v3.0 is the third generation model of Yamaha’s entry-level performance motorcycle. Hence the “v3.0”. The Yamaha R1’s DNA has filtered down the company’s 150 cc-class Supersport motorcycle with the latest redesign. Along with the sharper and sportier design, there are an extensive amount of mechanical changes as well in the new model.
The Yamaha R15 v3.0 measures 1,990 mm in length, 725 mm in width and 1,135 mm in height. It is 20 mm longer, 55 mm wider and 65 mm taller than the Yamaha R15 v2.0. It has a 20 mm shorter wheelbase (1,325 mm). The ground clearance, at 155 mm, is 5 mm lower now. The seat height, however, has increased by 15 mm, to 815 mm. The fuel tank capacity is a litre down to 12 litres now.
For the third generation, Yamaha has swapped the 149 cc engine with a 155 cc engine. The new engine is not only bigger but also features Variable Valve Actuation, a kind of variable valve technology. It develops 19.31 PS and 14.7 Nm of torque. In comparison, the 149 cc engine produces 17 PS and 15 Nm of torque. The new engine too is liquid-cooled and fuel-injected.

Internationally, the Yamaha R15 v3.0 is available with advanced features like an Assist and Slipper Clutch and inverted front forks, but it is unknown whether the Indian-spec version will have them or not. The version Yamaha is using for local testing did not have USD front forks. As Yamaha will launch the model before April 2018, it will not need to offer ABS on the motorcycle until April 2019. ABS is not available in international markets either.
The Yamaha R15 v3.0’s price in India could fall in the INR 1.20-1.30 lakh (ex-showroom) range.
