Following the emergence of the very first spy pictures of the 2018 Mahindra XUV500 last week, another test mule has been spotted up close. The image shared by Rushlane, however, does not reveal much in terms of new exterior details.
Thanks to the full body camouflage, it is impossible to point out the updates that have been made to the rear section of the Mahindra XUV500. It appears to have the same tail lamps as the current model. Last week's spy shots reveal new XUV Aero Concept inspired 10-spoke alloy wheels. Judging by the treatment meted out to the Scorpio facelift, the Mahindra XUV500 facelift will come with a new Imperio-like 'toothed' grille along with updates to the bumper and fog lamp sections.
According to the report by Rushlane as well as media reports from earlier this year, the 2018 Mahindra XUV500 will be more powerful and will have a higher torque output. The 2.2 L mHawk diesel engine will produce around 170 hp and close to 400 Nm of torque. This move will help the XUV500 match the specifications of the Tata Hexa (154 bhp & 400 Nm) and Jeep Compass (171 bhp & 350 Nm), on paper at least. The 6-speed manual and automatic transmission options are likely to be carried forward unchanged.

Mahindra is also planning a petrol variant of the XUV500. While details surrounding its launch date are scarce, Mahindra may launch it along with the introduction of the facelift, which is expected to take place towards the end of December or early next year.
