Is expected to begin testing in late 2017.
While developed markets in Europe and other regions will get a new Hyundai i20-based premium SUV next year, India will wait till late 2018 or early 2019 to get a different new sub-compact SUV which was previewed by the Hyundai Carlino concept at Auto Expo 2016. IAB's automotive illustrator Shoeb Kalania has created a rendering to portray his imagination of the production Hyundai Carlino, that is currently under development in Hyderabad.
While the Hyundai Creta, measuring 4,270 mm in length, competes in the premium sub-compact SUV segment, the Hyundai Carlino (name TBC) will be a sub-4 metre SUV pitted against the Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport and Tata Nexon.
The Hyundai Carlino is internally known by the codename 'Hyundai QXi'. Reports suggest that the new compact SUV will be offered with the Hyundai i20's 1.0-litre T-GDI turbocharged petrol engine and 1.4-litre U2 CRDi turbocharged diesel engine.

Hyundai doesn't offer an all-wheel drive system even in the Creta in India, and thus the Hyundai Carlino, which will be an economical offering, won't likely be offered with one either. A 6-speed manual can be expected to be one of the transmission options, besides 5-speed manual and an AMT.
