Could launch later this year in China.
Autohome.cn has acquired spyshots of the VW Tiguan XL undisguised in China, which will be one of the first markets to receive the LWB variant of the second generation compact SUV. It's expected to launch later this year, and will be manufactured by the SAIC Volkswagen JV.
The extension of the wheelbase is quite apparent in the spyshot, although it's unclear by how much VW extended the 2,682 mm wheelbase of the regular Tiguan. Rest of the model looks identical to the standard Tiguan that was also showcased at Auto Expo 2016.
The China-spec Tiguan XL is likely to be powered by a 2.0L TSI four-cylinder engine paired to a DSG unit and 4MOTION AWD system. Euro-spec models will additionally offer an option of a 2.0L TDI with an optional 7-speed DSG and 4MOTION AWD system.
