NDTV Auto reports that the launch date of the Royal Enfield Himalayan is March 16. Its expected price is between INR 1.6 lakhs and INR 1.8 lakhs (ex-showroom).
The Himalayan was unveiled at an event in New Delhi last month, followed by a pan-India tour to showcase the motorcycle in major cities before launch. Official bookings have not been opened, however select dealerships are taking orders. Customer deliveries are scheduled to commence right after the launch.
The Himalayan is powered by an all-new 411 cc air-cooled single-cylinder carbureted engine with SOHC and an oil-cooler. The power plant produces 24.5 PS at 6,500 rpm and 32 Nm at 4,000-4,500 rpm, and is paired with a five-speed transmission. RE says that the service interval for the Himalayan is 10,000 km, until when oil-change will not be necessary. A fuel-injected version of the bike is anticipated to be developed, solely for export.
