Would get the new 'GD' diesel engine.
AutoSpinn has spyshots of the next generation 2016 Toyota Innova testing on the roads of Thailand, ahead of its world premiere expected sometime this year.
Toyota officials were coy on talking about the second generation Innova during a press conference in Thailand last week, for the new Hilux. While the company acknowledged a replacement is long due, it wasn't keen on putting a timeline for its unveiling.
The new Innova, part of Toyota's IMV line-up (Innovative International Multi-purpose Vehicle) is expected to borrow technologies from the eighth-generation Hilux which went on sale in Thailand last week. Starting with the engine, Toyota would employ its all-new 'GD' engine family for the new Innova though it remains to be seen if both displacements (the 'GD' family comprises of 2.4- and 2.8-liter units) are offered. For select markets, the Innova will also be powered by a 2.7-liter petrol engine.
The forthcoming Innova would also up the safety aspect for all occupants. Not only will Toyota provide 7 airbags on the top-end variant (as compared to dual airbags available currently) but the entire chassis of the MPV will be made more stiff with better frontal crash protection levels.
