Will get a new ladder-frame platform.
Toyota has a busy year in Asia as it plans to replace two highly successful utility vehicles, the Fortuner and the Innova, with their next generations. The Japanese car maker also aims to sell 14,000 units/month of the new Hilux Revo - which was launched in Thailand today - in the Thai market - but as it is now, the pickup won't come to India.
The next generation 2016 Toyota Fortuner would likely appear before the Innova, several reports have stated. Bolstering these reports are Toyota officials, who refuse to put a timeline to the new Innova's unveiling, but confidently acknowledge that the second generation Fortuner is around the corner.
Speaking to the media at the launch of the Hilux, Mr. Kyoichi Tanada, President of Toyota Motor Thailand Co., Ltd., said - "Please wait for a few more months for new Fortuner".
According to sources, Toyota Motor Thailand (TMT) plans to have an "important press conference" on July 28, 2015, which could see the wraps come off the new Hilux-based SUV. Similar to the Hilux, the 2016 Toyota Fortuner will be powered by newly-developed 'GD' diesel engines, paired to 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions, and in 2WD and 4WD.
