Ahead of a market launch that will take place in 2016, the next generation Toyota Innova was snapped on test in Bangalore, where the company has its manufacturing base.
The second generation Innova will come with a redesigned exterior and interior, while riding on a new platform. The people-mover would not shift to a monocoque platform, instead the car will make use of a ladder-frame setup which has proven to be rugged and durable.
As these spy images show, the overall look of the car will not change much, but details like headlights, taillights, grille, certain body panels and the design of the rear quarter glass will be of a brand new design. Inside, the new Innova is expected to be roomier than the current model, and features seen on today's model like dual airbags, climate control, reverse camera, multifunction steering wheel would be carried over.
The powertrain options will be upgraded as well, with the 2016 Innova getting power from Toyota's new diesel engines that are currently under development. Toyota will explore the possibility of having a diesel variant with an automatic transmission, Indian Autos Blog has come to know.
The Innova has been, and still is, a hugely successful model for Toyota in India. The newer model certainly has its work cut out, thanks to the strong nameplate value.
